Inspiration

To make the game's main inspiration recognizable as shakespeare's I decided to keep the costumes and character less modern. Originally we wanted to modernize the designs, however it just seemed like an ordinary adventure game.

First inspiration shown is from the actual play - Shakespeare's: A Midsummer Night's dream. The character above is the fairy queen Titania - We didn't name her in the game however. Her colours are pale and cold - almost like an ice queen. Her dresses, unlike other ladies in the era, are less puffy and extravagant, more slim and elegant.

The above shows inspiration for Helena's clothing. The sleeves are usually long or puffy and the dress has two layers with the square neckline. Because Maya cannot have such defined details, i only gave the dress two layers of different colours to suggest different materials. Also, dresses usually reach the floor, however it was difficult to animate the feet with the dress in the way and glitches occurred therefore I made them ankle length instead.

The last set of clothes is for Helena's lover - demetrius. Because he only appears in the cutscenes, his clothing design is fairly simple - just a dark high neck shirt with plain pants.

The other pictures shown below are general inspirations for backgrounds and character style.
